ByteCop is a small, independently-run practice site. This page says plainly what we collect, why, who processes it on our behalf, and how to get it deleted. No legal filler — if something here is unclear, email us and ask.
If you just browse the site without signing in, we don't collect anything that identifies you personally — only anonymous usage events (see "Product analytics" below).
If you sign in (to save your progress across devices), here's exactly what that adds:
| Data | Why | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | Passwordless sign-in (magic link) and to identify your saved progress | Supabase (auth) |
| Which concepts you've started/finished | So your progress dots show correctly across devices | Supabase (progress table), keyed to your account only |
| An internal account ID (not your email) + the same progress events | So we can see, in aggregate, where people drop off and improve the product | PostHog (EU-hosted analytics) |
| Optional feedback comments | You choose to send these to us directly | Netlify Forms |
We do not sell any of this to anyone, and we don't run ads, so there's no third-party ad-tracking on this site.
We use PostHog, hosted in the EU, to understand which concepts people finish and where they get stuck — that's it. We've deliberately turned off session recording, surveys, and automatic click-tracking; we only record four specific events per concept (started, reached the walkthrough, reached the problem, completed), tagged to an internal account ID if you're signed in. PostHog never receives your email address — we identify signed-in usage by an internal ID only, so this analytics tool has no way to know who you are, just that "some account" did these things.
We use your browser's local storage (not tracking cookies) to remember your theme preference (dark/light) and your progress if you're not signed in. PostHog's script may set its own cookie/local storage entry to keep anonymous sessions consistent. None of this is used for advertising.
We keep your account and progress data for as long as your account exists. If you ask us to delete it (see below), we remove it — we don't keep backups around indefinitely "just in case."
Wherever you are, you can ask us to:
This currently happens manually rather than through a self-serve button — at our current size, emailing us is the fastest way to get it actually done, not a way of making it harder. We aim to handle any request within a few days.

contact@bytecop.devByteCop is built for working and aspiring software engineers. It isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
If what we collect or how we use it changes meaningfully, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. This is a small, actively-developed project, so check back occasionally.
